About Me

Image

I'm a photographer based in beautiful Edinburgh - I work in a variety of areas, including travel, weddings and commercial.

Initially inspired to pick up a camera on my first trip to East Africa (when I was so frustrated at not being able to capture the stunning light and scenery I saw every day). I haven't looked back. I love light - the way it gently hides, dramatically reveals, vice versa and  everywhere in between. Travel was my first passion and over the years of honing my camera skills I have been lucky to visit some spectacular parts of the world and capture their places and people - the combination of meticulous planning of pictures and quickly capturing that split second that can represent a place or a people can be exhilarating.

I also thrive on the buzz of representing people in that moment they are happiest - their wedding day. Often working quickly, and with available light, I love the challenge of producing something different from those fleeting moments in the day that really tell the story. I also feel that the personal side of wedding photography should not be underestimated - any pictures will be far better when the couple are relaxed around their photographer and this is probably what I consider most important in my work. That's why I recommend meeting each couple at least once between booking and the big day - plus I offer all my couples a laid back pre-wedding shoot to let them relax around me and the camera and we can work out a few fun portraits to try together.

As far as the big day itself is concerned I work in the most discrete and unobtrusive way possible, whilst always bearing in mind the style of images we have discussed in advance. Reportage, candid and photojournalism are very much words of the moment - for me, that way of working just the most natural way to go about capturing the spirit of the day. Plus I find my background in events management helps enormously (dim and distant past though it was!) Staying calm at all times, having a good grasp of how other suppliers will be working and what I can do to help the day go smoothly is something I find invaluable.

Now, from my base in sunny Leith I shoot weddings for couples across Scotland at a variety of different venue types and for all styles of wedding. I think the pitch at Tynecastle Football Club is still my most unusual venue though! Plus, whilst always building my travel portfolio and undertaking travel and commercial/PR commissions I sell my images from Scotland and around the world at craft fairs and in local shops as prints and canvases, as well as online for commercial stock use.
